Proton 7.0-3 released with compatibility improvements for more games



Valve has recently released yet another new version of Proton, 7.0-3, which comes to further improve compatibility with several games developed for Windows, but which can be run on Linux without much effort through the Steam Play feature. Among the changes, an updated version of the Direct3D 9/10/11 translation layer for Vulkan was added called DXVK, and Wine Mono, an open-source, cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework, was updated to version 7.3.0.

The list of games now considered playable includes: Age of Chivalry, Beneath a Steel Sky, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamer Edition, Cities XXL, Cladun X2, Cursed Armor, Flanarion Tactics, Gary Grigsby's War in the East, Gary Grigsby's War in the West, Iragon: Prologue, MechWarrior Online, Small Radios Big Televisions, Split/Second, Star Wars Episode I Racer, Stranger of Sword City Revisited, Succubus x Saint, V Rising, Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and We Were Here Forever.

Among other improvements, we can mention a fix for crashes involving the games Elden Ring, Mortal Kombat Komplete and DEATHLOOP, the new launcher of Final Fantasy XIV Online should now work as expected, support for controller in the Mini Ninja game and fix for video playback for Disintegration, Dread X Collection: The Hunt, EZ2ON REBOOT : R, El Hijo - A Wild West Tale, Ember Knights, Outward: Definitive Edition, POSTAL4: No Regerts, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, Solasta: Crown of the Magister , Street Fighter V, The Room 4: Old Sins. Fix video playback in Ghostwire: Tokyo and other games that make use of VP8 and VP9 codecs.

Additionally, there is now support for the Windows.Gaming.Input API, a feature that helps Street Fighter V perform in online matches, improved performance for the game Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice in certain areas, and improvements to text rendering in Rockstar Launcher.
